When artist Victor Rodriguez needed to get his paintings to the gallery for his exhibition “80s Eyes/Kennedy” some of the gallery staff found themselves trapped in the path of Hurricane Irma. The folks at Lyle O. Reitzel enlisted the services of Art Delivery Van to transport the series of large canvases from Victor’s DUMBO, Brooklyn studio to the gallery’s Lower East Side location. The team delivered the art in plenty of time for installation and great opening reception.
Victor Rodriguez (b. 1970) is a Mexican artist who made the move from Mexico City to New York in 1997. He has been living, working and raising his daughter in Brooklyn since that time. His painting style exhibits elements of both Hyperrealism and Surrealism and he is considered to be a leader among contemporary hyperrealist artists. The quality and level of detail are intense but Rodriguez does not identify himself entirely in this genre. Rather than privilege the pure objectivity of a photograph, Rodriguez renders his images with personal or historical narratives, resulting in his own unique artistic voice. When asked how he would describe himself in one sentence, he answered, “Isolated, obsessive and attentive to craft.”* Rodriguez’s career includes exhibiting internationally in venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, the Flint Institute of Contemporary Arts in Michigan, and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterrey in Mexico.
